Darius Slay has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third and fifth-round pick, signs a three-year $50 million deal!
The Eagles secondary has been the worst in the NFL for the last three seasons and Howie Roseman has had enough. They signed Javon Hargrave from the Steelers to make the D-line scarier. They brought back Jalen Mills as a dependable second or third corner. They cut Malcolm Jenkins and re-signed Rodney McLeod to get younger at the safety position. Now, for just a third and fifth-round pick, they bring in elite corner Darius Slay from the Detroit Lions. The star corner was disgruntled with his former team and certainly wasn’t sticking around for 2020. He also wanted a new contract, the Eagles obliged and immediately paid him like the best corner in the league. An average of $16.66 million per year pushes him above newly signed Dolphins corner Byron Jones and ensures Slay will help keep Amari Cooper in check for the next few years. A good deal for the Eagles and should push them deep into the playoffs with their strong roster this season. For the Lions, they got what they could for a player who didn’t want to be there and needed a huge new deal so hopefully, they can hit on those picks.
