Week 8 is done and the season rolls on with a large number of games ongoing this week there were plenty of takeaways to be had in amongst all the football played on a big Weekend in the 2021 season. Games took place across a multitude of divisions the length and breadth of the country, with a couple of cross-division games to enjoy as well.

Hunters Claim Their Prey

It was the first matchup of the season for the Hunters and the Blackhawks as they faced off. The game was extremely physical from start to finish with some absolutely booming hits. The Hunters did enough to win, tying up the all-time series with the Blackhawks at 4-4.

Kings Improve Royally

After their first league game in week 6 against the Stags, the Kings will have been slightly concerned with the manner and size of the defeat they suffered and were perhaps concerned about the rest of the season. Fast forward two short weeks and what a difference. From a 38-3 Loss at home to a 15-12 Victory away. Perhaps the Dunfermline side are just getting started.

Solent Set A Marker

Solent have looked really strong so far in 2021 and many would have wanted to see them compete against fellow Premier Division teams. Well this weekend our wish was granted as they faced off against the London Olympians in a cross-divisional matchup. The Thrashers lived up to expectations as they ran out 22-14 victors. If you didn’t already know, they are ready.

Cats Cruise Continues

The Cats just keep doing what we expect of them, while they never seem to set the world alight with their score lines, they continue to win games holding their opponents to minimal production. Week after week all the Cats do is win.

Chester Challenge In Nighthawks Nailbiter

Many thought perhaps the Merseyside team took their foot off the gas int the first meeting with the Romans and that they wouldn’t do that twice, I was less convinced and while I expected them to win, I wasn’t as convinced it would be comfortable for the Premiership side. Once again, these teams played a tight game with the Romans staying within striking distance but falling just one score short.

Crewe Clipped By Saved Surge

The Railroaders have fast become one of the UK’s favourite teams this year as despite being handed one of the worst schedules imaginable, they continue to play every game. I did however worry that such a stellar approach would perhaps cost them against their only fellow Division Two opponents and unfortunately it happened. Despite the entire Britball community willing them to win, they fell agonisingly short in a 7-6 defeat to the Surge.

It’s Not Just David Who Can Beat Goliaths

Inverclyde got their first taste of a Division One opponent and there aren’t many tougher as they encountered the East Kilbride Pirates, fresh off their win against the Edinburgh Wolves. There would be no hangover for the Pirates however as they ran out comfortable 43-6 Winners.

Mustangs Markedly Improved As Season Progresses

The Mustangs got off to a sluggish start this year and it was a worry that the season of 2019 had taken its toll on the Doncaster side. But this week they went head-on with the Premierships Sheffield Giants and despite losing, the 55-28 scoreline reflected well for Doncaster, as the Sheffield Defence has been historically difficult to score against.

Squadron Grounded In 2nd Game

After a good win against the Thunderbolts last week, the South East Squadron faced a much greater challenge as they faced off against the Essex Spartans. Apparently, according to reports, it was so tough in fact that the Squadron conceded after the kick-off to start the 2nd Half.
