Some months ago, the creator of Gridiron Hub discussed the use of all media platforms as a way to attract people to their local team, build up your teams profile and provide information to your members. This went from the likes of Instagram to Facebook but he said the number one tool was a good website and as such we have taken a look into the best and worst websites going throughout the UK. As you may imagine it takes a long time to scroll through 70 team’s websites and have a look through.

I must say though the overall standard was pretty good. There are some really nice websites out there and very few bad ones, although there are still plenty of teams that don’t have one. In this day and age I thought everyone would be striving for a website at least a basic one to show what your teams offering.

We have split them into 3 categories;

  • Easiest to navigate
  • Easiest on the eyes
  • Overall

So let’s get into it!

Best/Worst to Navigate

Best –Tamworth Phoenix/Aberdeen Roughnecks/Portsmouth Dreadnoughts/Dunfermline Kings

The top spot for me has to go to the Premiership team. The website looks extremely good with everything up to date; it’s very easy to navigate into different areas without getting lost. The home page clearly shows what is going on at the club, the teams they play and standings in their division and all other areas accessible from the top of the home page. The Roughnecks, Dreadnoughts and Kings all have simpler websites that just make the job of finding information easy.

Worst

Honestly I didn’t find a website that I found particularly hard to navigate. Most are well laid out and it’s clear where you go to find content, so bravo Britball.

Best/Worst Visuals

Best – Sheffield Giants/London Olympians

These two teams score extremely high for how their websites look although if I had to choose one, it is probably the Olympians. Both have extremely nice looking page layouts with very professional looking background and images. Really nice colour schemes attract the reader to different parts of the site so you want to look through other areas. Both are simple and don’t have lots of different tabs along the top but more drop down boxes which makes it easier on the eyes.

Worst – Oxford Saints/Colchester Gladiators/Leeds Bobcats

Honestly the Leeds one is only on here because their logo freaks me out and it’s the only thing you see when you open their sites home page. The whole of Oxfords home page looks blurry and reminds me of a school bulletin board. There really isn’t much colour in their page or in the Colchester page except for in areas that colour in text really isn’t required. Maybe it’s just the mix of blue and yellow I don’t like as they both have similar colour schemes.

Best/Worst Overall

Best – Lancashire Wolverines/Morecambe Bay Storm/East Kent Mavericks

The top spot for me has to go to the Lancashire Wolverines here although all of the above have really great websites. The website looks extremely good with everything up to date, nice visuals through each part of their site and it’s very easy to navigate into different areas without getting lost. The home page clearly shows what is going on at the club, the teams they play and standings in their division. The colour schemes are top notch and a little different with high quality graphics and pictures. Morecambe bay storm have player statistics on their home page which is something different to most other websites. The East Kent Mavericks website is really good but lacks colour in certain areas for my liking but all are extremely good examples.

Worst – Hertfordshire Cheetahs

Honestly, at first I thought this was just my laptop, so I went on someone else’s, then my iPad to realise no this website was really just horrendous. For being one of the top outfits in Britball they need to put some work into their site. You can’t really read any of the writing as it blends in with the background, the drop down menus are blue on a yellow and black background which make them difficult to see. There is very little structure to the site and it isn’t overly easy to navigate.

(Editors note: wtf is this website)
