After a strange week 5 with strange players that no one has heard of, we look back at the top fantasy football lineup you could have put together!
Top QB Of The Week
Patrick Mahomes 30.7 Points
In a disappointing loss to the Raiders that probably destroyed a lot of peoples accumulators, Mahomes racked up a huge amount of points trying to pull off the comeback.
- Patrick Mahomes – 30.70 points
- Ryan Tannehill – 30.00 points
- Ryan Fitzpatrick – 27.60 points
- Justin Herbert – 27.36 points
- Kyler Murray – 27.30 points
Tyler narrowly missed out on another top-5 tip with Deshaun Watson at No. 6, just a measly 0.44 points behind Kyler Murray. Joe Burrow (No. 29) didn’t do nearly as well and was on negative points for a lot of the Ravens game, he was blind-sighted by a hungry Baltimore defence.
I (James) picked two QBs who did similarly, they didn’t have huge weeks but they got you a good amount of points for their price. Minshew at $6,200 gave you 19.84 points as the QB13 and Teddy Bridgewater for $5,900 got you 20.82 points to come just above Minshew as the QB12.
Top RB Of The Week
Mike Davis 29.9 Points
Davis did his best McCaffrey impersonation in week 5 where there weren’t many great performances from running backs, I’m sure his stats this week will delight the “don’t pay the running backs crowd”
- Mike Davis – 29.9 points
- Todd Gurley – 25.0 points
- Miles Sanders – 23.9 points
- Ezekiel Elliott – 23.5 points
- Josh Jacobs – 22.5 points
Coming back strong this week, Tyler managed to pick through all the trash and found the No. 1 running back on the week with Mike Davis, the pressure will be on to do it in consecutive weeks. Helaire (No. 26) disappointed again for his price this week for Tyler but the game script did not do him any favours. Antonio Gibson (No. 28) had a number of chances to produce but he couldn’t get it done in week 5.
Unfortunately for me, the Patriots Broncos game got postponed by a week so my Damien Harris pick didn’t count but I still like him as a player to use this coming week. My other running back Kareem Hunt didn’t score three times as I predicted but he did have a good week as the 14th overall back.
Top WR Of The Week
Chase Claypool 42.6 Points
Out of nowhere, the Steelers have found their next budding star receiver in the mid-rounds of the draft and Claypool scored four times to blow away the rest of the receiver field in week 5.
- Chase Claypool – 42.6 points
- Travis Fulgham – 31.2 points
- Brandin Cooks – 30.1 points
- Adam Thielen – 29.3 points
- Mike Williams – 27.9 points
Tyler tipped A.J. Brown (No. 11) as the Titans came in after their COVID hiatus and it paid off big time. What didn’t pay off big time was Diontae Johnson (No. 103) securing a single catch and notching just 0.8 points on the week. Robby Anderson (No. 18) saved him though with a stellar week alongside his teammate D.J. Moore (No. 19).
I managed to secure you guys the No. 7 overall receiver in Jamison Crowder, in a week where names like Fulgham and Claypool led the scoring. Shenault (No. 25) also produced a lot of points for his low price tag of $4,500 to boost my week 5 picks. Will Fuller (No. 23) didn’t do his typical disappearing act either putting up a touchdown to get the Texans past the Jags.
Top TE Of The Week
Travis Kelce 24.8 Points
Kelce puts the loss to the Raiders on himself but he played excellently in a matchup the Chiefs should have won, he is making sure the team gets full value from his new contract.
- Travis Kelce – 24.8 points
- Jonnu Smith – 21.0 points
- Mark Adrews – 17.6 points
- Darren Waller – 15.8 points
- Mike Gesicki – 14.1 points
Tyler managed to tip the second-best tight end of the week as he’s on a roll with his tight ends. His second tight end tip was shared with me in Eric Ebron (No. 19) and the Claypool ended up stealing the entire offence. My other tight end didn’t fare well either, Tyler Higbee (No. 27) will no longer be starting in my fantasy lineups.
Top DEF Of The Week
BAL 26.0 Points
The Ravens are showing everyone exactly what we expected from their defence, a shutout and a sack-fest against Burrow and the Bengals produced a huge fantasy week for this unit.
- Baltimore – 26 points
- Cleveland – 13 points
- Los Angeles Rams – 12 points
- Miami – 12 points
- New York Giants – 11 points
I managed to pick out the cheaper Browns to come up big against Rivers and the Colts and they did just that as the second-best defence of the week. Tyler chose to go with the more expensive Steelers but they still produced as the No. 8 defence of the week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
And that was the top fantasy football lineup for week 5 of the NFL season!
