NFL International is one of the League’s fastest-growing business areas and a key strategic priority, as the NFL seeks to driver global fandom with strong support and commitments from ownership. NFL International’s mission is to grow the fan base and deepen engagement in order to increase value for the League and 32 Clubs. NFL International engages in partnerships around the world, with local offices in four territories (Canada, China, UK and Mexico) and significant in-market activities in Germany, Australia and Brazil. The local market teams are responsible for operations outside of the United States, including marketing, events, consumer products, and sponsorship, with Central Management and Media driven out of the League headquarters in New York.

Given the NFL’s exceptional growth in the UK and strong momentum in Germany, the League is looking to hire a new Head of Europe to drive its next stage of growth. Reporting to the NFL’s Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, the role will have overarching responsibility for the successful delivery and execution of the NFL business strategy across the UK and Europe, including continued rapid fan growth and commercial success.

Based in the NFL’s London office, the Head of Europe is expected to be a thought leader not only in driving growth in the UK and German markets, but also significantly contributing to NFL International’s broader goals and objectives.

Key Deliverables/Expectations will include (but not be limited to)

Developing and executing against medium and long-term strategic vision for the NFL in UK & Europe

Developing and executing against medium and long-term strategic vision for the NFL in UK & Europe

Full responsibility for delivering against the European P&L

Driving operational efficiency and discipline across all local initiatives

Oversight of team executing in-market regular-season games in London, Germany and other potential markets

Set and achieve fan-growth objectives among both avid and casual fans through effective fan segmentation and marketing

Support the development and execution of a digital & social strategy integrated with overall market vision

Understanding and experience within the sports industry, including the changing dynamics around fan engagement and consumption

Advance Sponsorship and Licensing businesses through deep analysis and partner/category development – assessing the current/full potential and developing a strategy to drive upside and efficiencies

In partnership with the Managing Director—International Media, support media integration across blue-chip partners like Sky Sports, BBC, Prosieben and DAZN to maximize, reach, consumption and promotion

Exploring the viability and potential of alternate business models (e.g. collaboration with other major local entities and properties)

Fostering a positive and progressive environment in the UK office, managing the team to maximize capabilities and employee engagement

Establish strong strategic relationships with League stakeholders and Clubs, demonstrating both confidence and gravitas

Develop and execute growth strategies, with an emphasis on building scale, challenging status quo and driving innovation

Manage ambiguity and drive clear decision-making during a period of growth and change

Building strategic relationships in-market across partners, non-partners and influencers

Networking at Government, State and City levels, across the UK & Europe

Confidence and proficient in conducting media interviews

Be an ambassador for the NFL international through dynamic leadership and an excellent network of executives and brand leaders

Qualifications

15+ years’ experience in strategic planning and business development including but not limited to specific experience in developing Commercial assets and initiatives.

Demonstrated business acumen and analytical rigour in key decision-making within Sports — League and/or Club level, Entertainment or other leading business entities.

Experience preferably within UK and European business, with language skills a plus.

Experience successfully leading in functional and cross-functional teams to deliver revenue goals in a partnership structure/ multi-dimensional business model.

MBA degree preferred.

Personal Characteristics

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong motivation, discipline and ownership of transforming the NFL Europe through a period of transformation and growth.

Candidates will deliver exceptional strategic and operational leadership. A key component will be understanding the trends in the market, proactively addressing/taking advantage of trends and optimizing outcomes that will benefit the businesses.

The candidate will also be expected to coach and elevate capabilities across the NFL Europe team to create high-powered, effective local teams.

Candidates with sports and business development experience are preferred and candidates with strategic consulting experience from a top-tier consulting or investment banking firm will also be considered. Candidate should also exhibit the highest standards in compliance and business ethics in dealings with colleagues, partners and other parties.

The candidate of choice will possess diplomacy skills and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced environment. In addition to strong interpersonal abilities, excellent verbal, written and oral presentation skills are essential.
