What every team needs to address in the draft NFC EAST addition

In this article, we discuss where each team needs to fill a weakness in their team or for some teams potentially just gain more depth.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys somehow managed to have a divisional record of 5-1 last year and still not make the playoffs. A big offensive unit that includes one of the best offensive lines, Zeke, Amari Cooper scored enough points to win games. This coupled with Dak Prescott asking for too much money means they had to franchise tag him and if I was them I would be looking for his replacement. If $105m isn’t enough with $31.5m a year, then good luck ever getting him to agree to anything (and he is not worth $40m a year). The defence has to the biggest concern for this coming season however, even with the additions of Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe to strengthen at the DT position and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to make a difference at the safety position they are still severely lacking on this side of the ball.

Biggest Need

CB/Safety – The Cowboys are extremely poor at the defensive back outside of Clinton-Dix. They really have no standout corners at all and no second safety. There aren’t many excellent players for these positions either. At #17 if McKinney or Henderson are available they should look to these. If not possibly trade back to later to land Delpit or another of the top 5 corners.

Other Needs – WR, DE, LB, QB

New York Giants

The Giants have been in limbo for several seasons now between coaches, General managers and deciding whether to move on from Eli Manning or not. They did a decent job of starting the rebuild last year with some good additions on the offensive line, they have a new young Quarterback and a star Running back. They are missing some serious firepower at Wide Receiver to complete a rounded offence. On defence they filled a few holes of with the additions of Blake Martinez from the packers, signing Leonard Williams to the franchise tag and although I think they overpaid him, James Bradberry will upgrade their secondary. The giants could potentially trade back here with one of the teams in the top 10 looking for a QB to gain some more picks.

Biggest Need

OT – The giants have 3 decent players on their offensive line but since Solder moved from the patriots he has been poor. At #4 they should have the pick of the bunch and Tristan Wirfs is the logical choice here but really any of the top 4 tackles would start straight away. The only other player that may throw a spanner in the works will be Isiah Simmons. He will likely be available and might be the best player on the board.

Other Needs – CB, WR, LB, Safety

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had a weird year last year as they won their division and made the playoffs with honestly half a team. The injuries on this squad last year were disgusting to say the least and they still managed 9 wins. The offensive line is superb if anything lacking a little depth, they have a good quarterback in Wentz and a decent supporting cast when all healthy. The addition of Javon Hargrave makes a defensive line I don’t think anyone wants to play (likely to stop Zeke and Barkley). The additions in the secondary means they don’t really have a desperate need for a player in this position worth a first-round pick. They pick at #21 however they either need to trade up or trade down to get what they need.

Biggest Need

WR – They need a big-time wide receiver to go with Jeffrey and Jackson who are both good when fit. They likely miss out on Jeudy and Lamb and I think Ruggs is overrated. The next group of Justin Jefferson and Tee Higgins are a bit of a reach at #21 so they need to either trade up to get one of the big 2 or they trade back until later in the first round to select Jefferson.

Other Needs – LB, Safety, OL

Washington Redskins

The redskins had a horrible year last season but with changes coming in the coaching this year they have a good starting platform. Getting Ron Rivera was a brilliant hire, his defences are normally very good, and he has a lot of chips to play with on the Redskins roster. They have managed to keep a lot of players they really needed to hold onto, although if they could get Trent Williams back it would be ideal. The defensive front looks talented and along with the addition of Thomas Davis at linebacker who played under Rivera at the Panthers and Kendall Fuller/Ronald Darby at cornerback, the defence looks in a good place. They signed Richard Rodgers to fill a vacant position at tight end however he is a risk having not played most of the last 2 seasons.

Biggest Need

WR – The teams wide receiver depth is terrible. They had some bright moments from McLaurin last year but that’s about it. They need some weapons for Haskins to throw to. I think Chase Young is overrated and the redskins should trade back and gain some serious capital for the #2 pick. If they are going back to a 4-3 defence it’s likely Kerrigan and Sweat are the two defensive ends. I don’t see the need to take young that highly however they do need to add depth at DE some point in the draft. (I believe they take Young however this article is for most desperate need)

Other needs – DE, FS, OL
