It would seem after the weekend that at the very least the Pennine Panthers have decided that they do not feel it is safe to proceed this season in the 8GL according to an announcement their own Facebook page today.

This now means the budding breakaway league now consists of 7 teams: Kings Lynn Patriots, Leigh Miners, St Helens Cardinals, Warrington Scorpions, Wigan Raiders, Warwickshire Bears and Midland Storm.

The Midland Storm have now also stepped away from the league!

Actual post from Pennine Panthers below:

During this COVID-19 pandemic, we as the Pennine Panthers have been committed to the welfare and safety of our players. We have been conducting checks and installing safety procedures above and beyond UK Government guidelines, all whilst following the BAFA Return to Play protocols.

It has come to our attention over the last 48 hours that we as a team and the 8GL as a league have differing views and thoughts as to how the league should proceed this year during this ongoing global health crisis.

Therefore, the Pennine Panthers will be ceasing training immediately in accordance with local lockdown restrictions and will not be taking part in the 8GL this year. We would like to thank the 8GL for the role they have played thus far in 8-man football and plan on rejoining the league next year once this current health crisis subsides.

The Pennine Panthers are committed to the growth of 8-man football in northern England and will continue training again in accordance with the BAFA Return to Play protocols, and when local lockdown restrictions allow. The safety of our players, coaches and staff are paramount.
