BAFCA Director Peter Laird Shares Impact of Sport on Young People!
BAFCA Director Peter Laird shares the impact that sport can have on young people and what it means to get your university team involved in the local community!
In the Britball community, we all know that the sport has changed our lives in some way, shape or form, whether that is because it gets people volunteering in the community, for fitness purposes or realising it’s a passion and pursuing a career within American Football.
One person who has done this is Peter Laird having taken up many positions in the American Football world including Head Coach at the Edinburgh Napier Knights university team to his position as British American Football Coaching Association Director.
In an article published by The Scotsman newspaper, Peter Laird explains the impact that getting the university team involved with the community and setting up youth teams has had on the local area, young people changing their thoughts on academics or the benefits of playing sports.
The article states that: “Studies have also shown that high school students who participate in organised sports are more likely than non-athletes to attend university and gain degree qualifications” and Peter goes into the other benefits more clearly over the course of the piece.
