What every team needs to address in the draft AFC SOUTH addition

In this article, we discuss where each team needs to fill a weakness in their team or for some teams potentially just gain more depth.

Houston Texans

The Texans had one of the strangest ending of a season and an even stranger offseason, after giving up serious capital to add Kenny Stills as a weapon at receiver and Laremy Tunsil to strengthen the porous Offensive line, they made it to the AFC championship game. They led the Chiefs 24-3 before an O’Brien Howler and a turnover lead to 14 quick Chiefs points, who then went on to win comfortably. Their next move then would surely to be to add to what they have. But no, they allowed Defensive Tackle DJ Reader to walk and then traded away Deandre Hopkins for a penny chew. They have taken a gamble on David Johnson returning to form and added Cooks and Cobb as weapons outside. The cost of all this means the Texans only pick twice in the top 100, and with no 2021 1st or 2nd rounders it’s crucial they get it right.

Biggest Need

OL – Despite adding Tunsil, the Texans Oline were still poor and were bailed out numerous times by Watson and his Receivers. It’s crucial the Texans add to their line to try to keep Watson on his feet and healthy. However with no pick until round 2 they may not be starting calibre and may need to go with best player available in another area of need.

Other Needs – DT, DE, CB

Indianapolis Colts

This team was built for a Superbowl run across the board except for at the quarterback position. I would say that a long-term solution is still required but Rivers could easily return to his form from a couple of years back behind that offensive line. They are strong across the offensive line that provides good pass protection and running lanes. Until Mack got injured last year the colts were well on their way to the playoff.

Biggest Need

WR – T.Y Hilton is one of the best in the business, but he can’t do it all himself. If they can pair him with another superstar receiver that would be ideal however they don’t pick until #34. This may be an area for the likes of Tee Higgins or Laviska Shenault Jr.

Other Needs –DL, CB, TE

Jacksonville Jaguars

This year the Jaguars will be a contender to #tankfortrevor as last year they were very poor most of the season. They brought in Foles on big money and then managed to ship him onto the bears, they traded potentially the best corner in the league to the ram’s mid-season. Outside of a top-level line backer core they are really struggling for much positives.

Biggest Need

OL/DT – At #9 and #20 they could get an instant starter at either of the positions. They are decent at the interior line but really need to replace their tackles so could have the pick of one of the top 3 OT available. If Derrick Brown was to fall they should take him first over an offensive tackle that may be still available at #20. After Brown and Kinlaw there is a significant drop off at DT.

Other Needs – QB, RB, CB, Safety

Tennessee Titans

The Titans had a good season last year after they started with Mariota and ended up with Tannehill taking them all the way to the AFC championship game thanks to the league leading running of Derrick Henry behind a very strong offensive line. They have lost tackle Jack Conklin to the Browns and Jurrell Casey to the Broncos which are big losses, however they do have a serviceable backup in Dennis Kelly to play right tackle. They managed to keep Tannehill and Henry on the roster and have added Vic Beasley to a one-year deal. If he shows any form like he did in 2016 he could be the x-factor on the defence.

Biggest Need

LB – The Titans have a need for a big-time line-backer however at pick #29 I’m not sure any of the big-time guys will be left. If any of the trio of Kenneth Murray, Patrick Queen or Zack Baun are available they would be good choices at this pick.

Other Needs – OL, DL, Safety, RB
